Barreling Big J: Ginebra-Tanduay rivalry


The Big J on what he has to say on Ginebra's chances on winning their first-ever PBA title before the start of their All-Filipino finals series vs Tanduay.


When Ginebra lost to Tanduay in Game 4 of the All-Filipino finals by one point, the Rhum Makers won their second championship of the season.


The highly-anticipated first game of Ginebra and Tanduay during the third conference with Billy Ray Bates and Michael Hackett match-up against Rob Williams and Andy Thompson of Tanduay, the Rhum Makers prevail, 114-109, to give Ginebras their first loss in five games.

1990-1991 Back-to-Back NCAA champions Mapua Cardinals


In the 66th season of the NCAA, the Mapua Cardinals win their fourth senior division title and their first in 9 years, defeating two-time defending champion San Sebastian Stags in the finals, breaking the 16-year cycle, the Cardinals were NCAA champions in 1949, 1965 and 1981.


In 1991, Mapua wins their second straight NCAA crown, winning over San Beda College on the last second heroics of Cardinal Benny Cheng.

1977 NCAA and MMUCAA champions



After 18 years, the San Beda Red Lions were once again NCAA Senior champions. San Beda beat Ateneo, 77-75, in the third game of their best-of-three title series.


PSBA Jaguars became the very first MMUCAA champions. The new collegiate league was participated in by 10 schools.

1997-98 PBL All-Filipino Cup Finals: Tanduay vs Agfa



Jimwell Torion scored 38 points to lead Agfa to a win in Game 3.


Tanduay came back from a 1-2 series deficit to win the All-Filipino Cup crown.

54th UAAP Finals: A three-peat that never was


In the 1991 UAAP finals, De La Salle Green Archers beat FEU Tamaraws, 80-77, to win its third straight title, however, a replay was ordered and the Archers didn't show up in their rematch, thus the UAAP board declared the FEU Tamaraws the UAAP champions for season 54.




Just to make it official at the Araneta Coliseum, a tip off without any La Salle players showing up.

NCAA Season 64: The Letran Knights



The Letran Knights, winner of five of the last six tournaments of the NCAA senior basketball and are looking for their second grandslam in 1988, had been playing below-par in the first round of eliminations.


The Knights eventually yield the crown to their arch-rival San Sebastian Stags, which completed a 10-game sweep in the eliminations en route to the title.
