1960 National Open and MICAA champion YCO Painters


The YCO Painters wins their seventh straight National Open title, the Painters have won the tournament from 1954-1960.


The Painters moved within a win of clinching the MICAA basketball championship.


YCO won the MICAA cage title over rival Ysmael Steel in the third and final game of their championship series.

Season 53: De La Salle repeats as UAAP champions


In the 1990 UAAP Seniors basketball tournament, De La Salle Green Archers actually swept the competition and would have won the title outright via 14-0 sweep, but the UAAP board forfeited three of its victories due to the ineligibility of archer Noli Locsin. As a result, La Salle needed one more win over their finals opponent UE Warriors to clinch the title and repeated as back-to-back champions.

UAAP season 53 & NCAA season 66



UAAP season 53 opens on July 28, 1990.


NCAA Season 66 opens a week later on August 5, 1990.


Magnolia's last two titles in 1990


The 1990 National Open championships drew only seven teams. Magnolia continued its mastery over Sta.Lucia Realtors, whom they beat 3 times in the last five PABL finals series.


Magnolia won the PBL first conference of the 1990 season, which turn out to be the last time they won under the name of Magnolia. The team did win a PBL title under the banner of Instafood Mealmasters in 1994.

Memorable moments: 1950-1951 National Open Championships


The four teams left to play in the semifinals of the 1950 National Open championships were the 
defending National Open champion and NCAA runner-up De La Salle, UAAP champion UST, MICAA champion Terminal Maroons and MICAA runner-up PRATA.

In the end, PRATA was crowned the 1950 National Open champions.



The UST Glowing Goldies defeated San Miguel Brewery for the 1951 National Open basketball championships. It was the last time a UAAP team won the National Open.

1982 MUCAA Opening





July-August 1982: UAAP / NCAA games



Opening games of the 45th UAAP Season on July 18, Ateneo rout UP, 98-68, in the first game, Adamson rip UST, 91-82, in the second game, defending champion FEU and host UE played in the third game.


July 24 results of the UAAP games: UE beat Ateneo, 95-80, UST rout NU, 116-93, as Glowing Goldie' Pido Jarencio scored 50 points.



The 58th NCAA Season opens on July 25, Letran beats Trinity, 111-90, while Mapua downed San Sebastian, 94-82, in a pair of senior games.


In the NCAA second round of action in August, Trinity College upset defending champion Mapua, 77-72, other senior games results, Letran over Jose Rizal College, 104-79, and San Beda winning over San Sebastian, 63-54.

Sunkist vs Alaska: Rivalry of the 90s



Sunkist Orange Juicers won the 1995 PBA All-Filipino crown in a seven-game series with Alaska Milkmen.




They were considered the mid-1990s rivalry after battling for the third straight time in a PBA finale in the second conference of the 1995 season.
